KITCHEN PLANS

So, tomorrow is the big day when we close on our new house! It has been a long and intense process and I can’t wait to cross the finish line and call this new house our home. I’m pumped you guys. And tomorrow morning I’ll, definitely most likely, be looking a little something like this…

While this whole moving thing is inevitably a stressful situation, we’re lucky enough to have a bit of a carryover in moving from our current house into our new house. When all is said and done, we’ll have about a month to transition over which allows us a little bit of time for some meticulously planned out preparations in the new digs. So, this weekend will be spent taking advantage of a house with no furniture with some light demo and prepping.

One of the things we definitely want to work on in the new house is the kitchen. The space isn’t bad now but as far as finishes and fixtures go, we definitely want to update the kitchen and make it a little bit more us. We will be painting the cabinets (inside and out) so this month long overlap seems like the perfect time to get that going. If I only have to pack and unpack a kitchen once during this move, I’ll be a happy girl.

I put together a mood board for our kitchen plans to give you an idea of the direction we are heading as far as finishes go…

kitchen plansI want to stay pretty neutral as far as the finishes go with whites, grays and blacks and brink in color with textiles & accessories. I like the idea of white walls, light gray painted cabinets and sleek gold or brass hardware to make it a little extra special. Bringing in one some natural wood elements, one of our persian runners (you can see a bit of the one I’m thinking of using here), and a simple roman shade will add warmth and comfort to a space that can easily feel cold.

Here are a few inspiration images that have been running around in my head…

I hope to be back next week with some demo updates and pictures next week along with some solidified plans for moving forward in the other spaces. New house, here we come!

LET’S PROCRASTINATE!

Mondays are rough. We all know this. I’ve never met someone who claimed to love waking up on Monday mornings and we should probably keep it that way because chances are, if Mondays are your idea of a good time, we wouldn’t get along. {Insert eye-roll here} I kid, kind of, but seriously, no one likes them and it’s always hard, for me at least, to pull the trigger and get my mind out of the clouds (and my head off of my pillow) bright and early on Monday mornings.

So, in an attempt to extend the joy of the weekend by even just a few moments, here are some links that I thought you might like. Let’s procrastinate, shall we?

*An interesting way to stay cool as we live out the rest of the summer.

*This evolution of interior design makes me question quite a few design trends. I’m looking at you 1990’s!

*Some unique kitchen backsplash ideas have me thinking about possibilities for our new house

*Jenny Komenda’s DIY Branch Light makes me want to go modern…

* These Instagram photos are making me hungry…

*Gwen Hefner has me thinking that we should be moving into a log cabin.

*I’ve been thinking about going bold with design choices in our new house and this gold faucet has me confident I’m on the right track.

*And a few more bronze accents that make me swooooooon!

*Talk about girl power! This video made me smile #LikeAGirl ;)

We’re all set to close on our new house on Friday and I’m full of anxious and excited energy. Thanks for procrastinating with me. Whaddya say we make this a weekly thing?

Now, back to the grind. This girl has a house to pack… Happy Monday!

MOVING FORWARD: PLANS FOR THE NEW HOUSE

If any of you have moved recently (or ever really) you can relate to the chaotic mix of emotions that are going on in this house right now. From paperwork & signatures to organizing & packing like a crazy person, there hasn’t been much free time to be had but that hasn’t stopped me from daydreaming about plans for the new house both inside and outside.

One thing I’m not only embracing, but also so excited about is the idea of change. A change of house, a change of location, a change of style and, really, a whole new life. Our rowhouse in the city has been really good to us over the last 3 1/2 years but this new house has so much to offer us in the change department. For starters, talk about the green! plans for the new houseAfter living in the city for the last few years, I think I forgot how much I loved being surrounded by trees. Not until we found our new house did I realize how much I missed being in the middle of so much green. We’re excited to get together some exterior design plans, which is something we haven’t been able to do in our city rowhouse and its limited outdoor space.plans for the new houseFrom fencing and landscaping to exterior lighting and painting, we have our work cut out for us but I can’t wait to tackle something that we haven’t done before. There’s something about the fear of the unknown that gets me even more excited! plans for the new houseIn another outdoor area, I’m loving the potential in this sweet little side porch and have been coming up with some on ideas on how to make it a little less kid-zone and a little more loungin’ in the treetops. Grown-up clubhouse? Twenty-something treehouse? You get the idea…

I’m also excited to embrace change with my design style on the inside. Much of what is in our house now will, of course, being coming with us to the new house but I can’t wait to bring new life to our old things and design an entirely new space. During the rare times that I have a moment to sit down and breath, I’ve been busy getting together inspiration for some plans for new house.

Here’s a little bit of what I have in mind…

WE’RE MOVING!

Things have been slow on the blog front lately and, let me just tell you, that is not a reflection of what has been going on in our lives these days. Life has been a crazy, hectic, excited ball of change late because… WE’RE MOVING!

After spending the last 3 1/2 years putting our blood, sweat and tears into our rowhouse in the city, we have decided to take on a whole new house of our own and start from square one all over again. Over the next few weeks we will be busy packing, moving and getting plans together for this sweet little red brick house in the woods that we will soon be calling home.

we're moving! While I’m feeling all of the usual emotions of moving (stress, excitement, nostalgia, stress…did I mention stress?) I’m so ready to get a whole new set of plans together for our new home and bring you all along for the ride whether you like it or not. Just kidding…I’m not one to hold hostages. But…buckle up! It’s all about to go down…

In the meantime…check out our house tour for a reminder of our current home.
